Providing Support to Local Fire Stations Following Hurricane Helene
When Hurricane Helene swept through Burke County, the dedicated members of our local fire and rescue stations were among the first to step up — preparing their communities before the storm arrived and working tirelessly in its wake to keep neighbors safe. Burke County United Way (BCUW) is proud to have provided financial support to those that applied for available funds, in recognition of their extraordinary service and to help address the needs that arose from the storm's impact.
BCUW reached out directly to Burke County fire stations, inviting each to submit requests outlining their specific needs following the hurricane. In total, BCUW distributed more than $84,000 across five local stations and rescue units — West End Fire Department, Lovelady Fire Department, Drexel Fire Department, Enola Fire Department, and Burke Rescue Squad — funds made possible through the generosity of donors who trusted BCUW to direct resources where they were needed most.
The bravery, dedication, and professionalism displayed by Burke County's first responders throughout the Hurricane Helene crisis reflect the very best of this community. From early preparations to sustained recovery efforts, these teams went above and beyond to protect lives and property, and BCUW is honored to stand alongside them in that work.
