As our community and state implement plans to address the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, Burke County United Way is rapidly assessing the most urgent needs on the ground, such as food, shelter, and financial assistance.

3/19/2020 – Burke County United Way COVID-19 Response

  • The Burke County United Way office currently remains open with some staff in office and some working remotely. We encourage persons wanting to stop by the office to call first to ensure someone is there to receive them.
  • We will continue to field calls and access email and voicemail.
  • We maintain contact with state emergency management to stay updated on COVID-19.
  • We encourage the use of 2-1-1 to call for assistance and resources related to COVID-19. If citizens would like to receive general developments, they should sign up for 211’s text alerts by texting COVIDNC to 898211.
  • We urge that all our partner agencies as well as community nonprofits to update their NC211 profile with current information about their services during this time.

Burke County Schools have opened seven grab-and-go feeding locations. Children will revieve a lunch for that day and a breakfast for the next. View the details and full list of locations here.

Local nonprofits that regularly serve food have made changes to ensure everyone's safety. Please take a look at the The Outreach Center and Burke United Christian Ministries latest updates on their Facebook pages.

Charter is offering free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 students who do not already have a Spectrum subscription. To enroll call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees waived for new student households. Confirm terms with provider.
