Chasity Poteat Rice, Executive Director

Chasity joined Burke County United Way in August 2015 as Executive Director. She brings over 15 years of combined healthcare marketing and fund development experience. Prior to joining United Way, she served as the Vice President of Marketing & Outreach for Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Valdese, NC. "Making a difference in the lives of others is what fuels my soul; and I firmly believe that it's our individual responsibility to share our unique gifts and talents with others." Chasity likes identifying a strategy, putting tactics in place and working a plan to success. With a bit of a short attention span, focusing on projects and events is a strong suit.

Chasity completed her undergraduate studies from Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, NC earing a degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in Marketing and Management. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Charlie and their blended family - Kelsey & Carl Pawsat, Alex Rice, Maya Rice, Olivia Lehn and Matthew Lehn; and grandson, Rowan.    


Charles Conley, Manager of Operations

Charles joined Burke County United Way in November of 2012 with 41 years of experience in the business world, including 32 years in mortgage lending and 12 years as a volunteer with Burke County United Way. His business background includes 17 years as owner of Conley Mortgage in Morganton.   His prior duties at Burke County United Way included Board Member, Treasurer, Budget & Allocations Chairman and Campaign Cabinet Member.  Charles earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  He is currently serving on the loan committee of Valdese Economic Development Investment Corp. and is a  member of Morganton Kiwanis Club.  Previously he has held positions as Treasurer of First United Methodist Church, Secretary and Board Member of the NC Association of Mortgage Professionals and Secretary of the Morganton Elks Lodge. 

Charles has been a Morganton resident the majority of his life.  He is proud to be a resident of such a wonderful place to live.  He enjoys hiking in the Linville Gorge, yoga and has become the local "go-to" pet sitter.
