Burke Teens in Action Youth Giving Council recently met to set their criteria for funding for their fiscal year 2009-10. Four areas of concern were identified; Teens and Family Issues, Teen Options in the Economy, Teen Service to Others and Teen Boredom. The council will seek grant proposals from youth groups for projects addressing these four areas in November with grant awards in February.
This is the second year that the Teens in Action Youth Giving Council has been in place. The purpose of the council is to introduce young adults to philanthropic procedures that include assessment, funding and granting. The council is facilitated through Burke County United Way and has been received a two-year grant from the Wal-Mart foundation to assist in its operation.
