       Continuing Burke's Vision

Continuing Burke's Vision is a program of Burke County United Way in conjunction with the Burke County Health Department and other human service agencies in Burke County.  The wheel below shows the work that has been on-going since the 1989 United Way Needs Assessment.  The second tier highlights programs that were completed in the first years after the Needs Assessment.  In 1996, a community-visioning meeting led to the next tier of accomplishments.  The outer ring displays on-going efforts in progress today.  Many dedicated people have contributed to these accomplishments.  Continuing Burke's Vision provides and implements creative solutions to community problems through volunteer task forces.  2003 saw great progress in the Pathways to Wellness programs, including the in-school classes on tobacco cessation, health and exercise.  A health survey was completed, which will be used to direct future efforts of the Youth Task Force, the Healthy Mouths Task Force, the Healthy Bodies and Healthy Lives Task Force, the Counseling Task Force, the Immigrant Task Force and services for Senior Citizens.
